A Love of Learning and the Perseverance to Succeed (LLPS)

Welcome to 2DG

Autumn Term A

Our connector this half term is 'The Incredibles' and we will be learning all about superheroes.

What is a superhero?

How many can you name?

We will be reading the story of Eliot Jones: Midnight Superhero and retelling part of this in our own words.

Our grammar focus will be on using capital letters and full stops consistently and correctly. In Design and Technology we will be making a superhero glove puppet and writing instructions for others to follow. At the end of this topic, we will have a superhero morning.  More details will follow.

Our Science topic will explore how everyday materials are used. This will involve sorting and comparing different materials and thinking about why materials are used for a specific purpose.

In Maths lessons, the focus will be on number.  This will involve recognising the value of each digit in a 2-digit number and solving problems. We will be using jottings to add and subtract numbers. Arithmetic will focus on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and we will be starting to learn the 2 times table.  Follow the link at the bottom of this page to some great games to help you learn your number facts and times tables.

During Computing sessions, children will be using 2Paint software to create a superhero scene.  Children will also learn how to save and open files.

Library books and reading books are changed weekly. Please make sure your child has these books in school every day.  Please make it a habit to read with your child daily and to encourage them to talk about their books.  This term, our PE session is on a Tuesday and we would be most grateful if you could make sure that your child has a full PE kit in school, including a change of shoes.  Homework will go out on a Friday and should be handed back in on the following Wednesday.

We hope that you will really enjoy your year in 2DG.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to us.
