This connector will focus on the lives of Florence
Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Children will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the past using a variety of sources. They will also meet an actress in the role of Florence Nightingale and will learn all about her life, why she went to the Crimea, how she made things better for the soldiers and what happened as a result of her work. They will have the opportunity to handle a selection of real and replica objects and try on replica uniforms for a Nightingale nurse and a Crimean soldier.
In computing we will identify the benefits of using technology including finding information, creating and communicating and continue to learn how to be safe online.
In maths our focus will be on telling the time. This will include o'clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and 5 minute intervals. Please practise daily with your child. We will be looking at measurement, reading a variety of scales and using vocabulary to describe position, movement and direction.
Library books and reading books are changed weekly. Please make sure your child has these books in school every day. Please make it a habit to read with your child daily and to encourage them to talk about their books. This term, our PE session is on a Tuesday and we would be most grateful if you could make sure that your child has a full PE kit in school, including a change of shoes. Homework will go out on a Friday and should be handed back in on the following Wednesday.
We hope that you will really enjoy your year in 2DG. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to us.
