Here and There
This will focus on comparing our local environment to a remote Scottish island.
Children will learn about the points of a compass and how to describe where places are in relation to each other, within the United Kingdom. We will be using maps, atlases and computer mapping to locate countries and to describe their human and physical features. Children will then use this knowledge to write an information text.
We will be reading the Katie Morag stories which depict life in a remote Scottish island. Children will be writing an informal letter, using subordination and applying their knowledge of question marks.
In science we will be finding out about and describing the basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival. We will also be looking at the life cycle of different animals. In art we will be learning how to build a repeat pattern using a variety of materials and our focus in computing will be on how children can keep safe online.
In maths we will be consolidating our understanding of addition and subtraction and using this to solve problems. We will be exploring money and how different combinations of coins can be used to make a particular value. We will also be developing our understanding of multiplication. Daily arithmetic sessions will focus on x2 multiplication facts, odd and even numbers and counting in steps of 2, 3, 5 and 10 from 0.
