Welcome to 3B!
This term our Connector is: How does your garden grow?
This half term we will be focusing on the text "The Gardener" by Sarah Stewart. Children will identify how the language used contributes to the reader’s experience. This topic will enable children to develop their skills in justifying their personal opinion. Pupils will write reviews on books and poems and celebrate World Book Day. Towards the end of the term, we will delve into David Walliams' novels.
In maths, our focus will be on increasing the children’s fluency with whole numbers and the four key operations, (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) including number facts and the concept of place value. By the end of year 3 it is expected that the children will be able to recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. This half term we will introduce the topic of statistics. Pupils will interpret data using bar charts, pictograms and tables. We will solve one and two step questions using information presenting in scaled bar charts, pictograms and tables.
In science we will be investigating magnets. Pupils will identify magnetic and non-magnetic materials and the effect of magnetic poles. Children will take part in a number of practical activities which will involve predicting, observing and recording.
Library books and reading books are changed weekly. Please make sure your child has their book as they enjoy choosing new books. If anything has happened to their book, just let me know. What is most important is that your child has a book to read. Please either send me a note or catch me at the end of the day.
Please make it a habit to read with your child and to ask them open-ended questions such as 'why do you think...?' so that your child can really elaborate on their answer and you can also see how much your child has understood the text.
This term our PE is on Wednesday, please ensure that your child has a full PE kit, so they can participate.
Homework will go out on Fridays and we will expect it to be in the following Wednesday.
