This term will be reading traditional fairy tales, such as Rapunzel and Red Riding Hood. We will also be looking and those with a twist. Children will have an opportunity to write a traditional fairy tale and will be considering the viewpoints of different characters. We will also write an alternative ending to some of the fairy tales studied.
In maths our focus this year will be on increasing the children’s fluency with whole numbers and the four key operations, (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) including number facts and the concept of place value. By the end of year 3 it is expected that the children will be able to recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
This half term we will revisit work on place value of 3-digit numbers and addition and subtraction (developing mental strategies and written methods). We will also continue to develop problem solving skills.
Science will be taught as part of our connected curriculum and will focus on Animals including humans. The children will identify that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition, and that they cannot make their own food; they get nutrition from what they eat. They will also find out that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement.
In music we will be singing from memory with accurate pitch and creating accompaniments for tunes.
During computing we will be using multimedia and Windows Movie Maker to create our own films. The children will be learning about film making techniques including visual and sound effects.
Please make it a habit to read with your child and to ask them open-ended questions such as 'why do you think...?' so that your child can really elaborate on their answer and you can also see how much your child has understood the text.
This term our PE is on Wednesdays and Thursdays, please ensure that your child has a full PE kit, so they can participate.
Homework will go out on Fridays and we will expect it to be in the following Wednesday.
I am looking forward to an exciting term in 3H!
