Summer A 2017
We hope you had an exciting Easter holiday and have been busy researching our new topic.
Our connector for this half term is called
'Valiant or Vicious Vikings?'
Vikings were reputed to be the 'wild barbarians from the north' but they were also shrewd traders, excellent navigators and superb craftsmen and ship builders. They had a rich tradition of story telling and lived in a society that was open and democratic for its day.
In English, we will be using information texts to create our own factual book about the Vikings, including themes such as transport, beliefs, home life, arts and crafts as well as the notorious raids. Following this, we will be writing adventure stories inspired by Norse myths and sagas.
Science this term will focus on the digestive system and how it functions, in addition to learning how to keep our teeth healthy.
In Maths, we will be learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, angles and measurement. We will be continuing to develop our fluency, reasoning and solving exciting problems.
Creating Viking picture stones, helmets, shields and longships
will form the basis of our art and DT work this half term.
