Hello and welcome to the class page for 6F. All the children have made a fantastic start to the year and have settled in well to their new class.
This term we will be reading Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. We will follow Michael's journey around the world and learn about the different countries that he visits. In Geography, we will learn about the physical features of countries in South America and Europe, to understand what it was like when Michael went to visit.
In English, we will be learning to write a balanced argument and will argue whether it is right or wrong for Michael to leave school. We will also write character descriptions from different points of view and use descriptive writing to describe Kensuke's island.
Our Science topic is ‘Evolution and Inheritance’. This term the children will be learning about living things and how they have changed over time. We will begin by looking at fossils and understanding how they were formed and why they are important. We will also be learning about adaptation and evolution and will look at how different animals have evolved to suit their environments.
This term we will focus on place value in Mathematics. We will order, compare and round large numbers and the children will know the value of each digit. This term we will also look at the four operations and develop the use of written methods for each operation. The children will also be looking at mastery and mastery with greater depth problems to expand their problem solving skills and will need to be able to explain their reasoning clearly.
