Hello and welcome to the class page for 6F. All the children have made a fantastic start to the year and have settled in well to their new class.
Our fist connector is ‘A World of Discovery’ and we will be reading ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo. During reading we will discuss the key themes in the story and will predict what might happen next. In writing sessions the children will have the opportunity to write in a variety of styles including: a balanced argument, a character description and a diary.
We will use Michael's journey to inspire our geography sessions and will find out about the climate of each country he visits, as well as plot his route around the world using an atlas.
This term we will focus on place value in Mathematics. We will order, compare and round large numbers and the children will know the value of each digit. This term we will also look at the four operations and develop the use of written methods for each operation using the inverse to check calculations. The children will also be looking at mastery and mastery with greater depth problems to expand their problem solving skills and will need to be able to explain their reasoning clearly.
Our Science topic is ‘Evolution and Inheritance’. This term the children will be learning about living things and how they have changed over time. We will begin by looking at fossils and understanding how they were formed and why they are important. We will also be learning about adaptation and evolution and will look at how different animals have evolved to suit their environments.
