Hello and welcome to the class page for 6F. This term we will be learning about Mexico, past and present. When learning about the past, we will focus on the ancient Maya civilisation.
SATs week will be the week beginning the 13th of May, so leading up to this we will be revising in class. It is really important to keep practicing your spelling and arithmetic at home and using your revision books. During SATs week, there will be a special breakfast club for Year 6 pupils.
We will be using the world map to locate Mexico and identify the surrounding countries and oceans. In small groups we will produce geographical posters about famous physical landmarks and will present these to the class. Later in the term, we will be learning the Mayan alphabet and creating Mayan mosaics. We will also understand the importance of the 'Day of the Dead' celebrations in Mexico and will have our own Mexican celebration.
In PSHE, we will begin to look at and challenge stereotypes and discuss how these can be damaging. We will also continue to focus on metal health and will learn mindfullness strategies to help us to stay calm.
This term we will revise the maths that we have learnt this year. This will give the children the opportunity to revisit past learning in preparation for SATS. We will also continue to focus on arithmetic and developing our strategies for reasoning.
Our Science topic is ‘Light’, where the children will be learning about different light sources and will be investigating the relationship between light and shadow.
