Our connector this term is
Our connector is ‘A World of Discovery’ and we will be reading Michael Morpurgo’s novel, Kensuke’s Kingdom.
We will use the novel for reading and writing sessions and will use the story to debate key issues in the book.
In English, we will describe settings and characters as well as writing from different points of view. We will also write diaries and letters as Michael, the main character in the novel.
In geography, we will be using atlases and maps to plot Michael's journey around the world. We will be learning about Japanese painters and painting in the style of these artists.
Our Science topic is ‘Evolution and Inheritance’.
You will be learning about living things and how they have changed over time. You will also be able to describe how adaptation leads to evolution and how animals have adapted to suit their environment.
You will also explore how skeletons have changed over time by looking at fossils and how they are formed.
The focus in Maths for the beginning of the year is place value.
We will be ordering, comparing and rounding numbers, as well as reading and writing numbers up to 10 million.
There will be an additional focus on arithmetic this year in the lead up to SATs. Furthermore, you will be building on your knowledge of the four operations in different contexts deciding which operations and methods to use and why.
Reading records must be in school every day and you must keep up to date with your target.
