This week we will explore the wonderful story of Diwali.
The story focuses on the importance of light overcoming darkness and features a lot of interesting characters such as Rama, Sita, Ravanna and Hanuman the monkey God. The children will have the opportunity to listen to the story and retell using masks and props.

There will be lots of new vocabulary to explore such as bow, arrow, diva lamp, rangoli, pattern, demon, prince, princess, king and magic.
Through the story, we will develop our children's awareness of India and the Indian culture. We will use ICT to explore videos of India and listen to traditional Indian music.
We will explore patterns in our maths learning. Observing patterns in clothes, the environment and through our own creations such as rangoli pictures using coloured rice and mehndi designs on our hands.
During Diwali Hindu's celebrate through lighting diva lamps and fireworks. We will talk about our own experiences of fireworks and discuss how we could keep ourselves safe in regards to fire safety.
Through our circle time we will talk about good and bad behaviour and how we can support each other to be our very best.
