Here you will have an insight into the reading and phonic strategies we use at Lordship Lane Primary.
Each year group visits the library at least once a week and children have an opportunity to borrow a book of their choice.
The phonics scheme use is Read Write Inc. and this builds a child’s vocabulary and spelling skills as well as developing strategies for reading words in context.
The Daily Supported Reading Programme (DSR) is delivered in Year One and helps children to work with trained adults in small groups to accelerate their progress in reading. It does this by providing books matched to their independent reading levels. The Reception children are introduced to this system at the end of the Summer Term.
In Key stage Two the Destination Reader Programme (DR) is used in whole class teaching of reading strategies, the development of paired discussion to build understanding as well as written responses (Selfies and the Big Picture) for children to apply their knowledge.
To foster a love of reading the children are given a reading book of different genres and a reading record in which the parent or child can add comments about the book.
