This half term we will be comparing our local environment with a remote Scottish island.

Children will learn about the points of a compass and how to describe where places are in relation to each other, within the United Kingdom. We will be using maps, atlases and computer mapping to locate countries and to describe their human and physical features. Children will then use this knowledge to write an information text.

We will be reading the Katie Morag stories which depict life in a remote Scottish island. Children will be writing an informal letter, using subordination and applying their knowledge of question marks.

We will also visit the Library on the same day as PE, so please remember to bring your library book to school on

Monday for 2B

Wednesday for 2C

Thursday for 2S.

We will change six children's reading books each day. Your child will be told which day they are changing their book. However, it is very important that your child brings their reading book to school every day. Should your child need to change their book again during the week, we will of course do so.

Please read with your child and ask them questions about what they have read. Please ask if you have any questions about reading and how you can support your child at home.

We're looking forward to a fun filled half term. If at anytime there is anything you wish to discuss, please do speak to the year 2 team.

Kind regards,

Miss Bell, Miss Chand and Ms Sharma.
