A Love of Learning and the Perseverance to Succeed

Year 2

Welcome to Year Two

Message from Miss Bell, Miss Chand and Ms Sharma:

Welcome back to an exciting new school year. It's so lovely to see you all, raring to get going in Year 2! We also want to say a huge well done for adapting to our new routines so quickly.

Reading

As well as Daily Supported Reading, in class we'll be reading the following book:

We are focusing on developing our retrieval skills. Here are some retrieval questions that you can ask when reading at home:

English

During our English lessons, we will be reading and creating written work based on the following books:

 Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Write a sentence using a capital letter and a full stop.
  • Put a series of sentences together to write a short narrative.
  • Use fronted adverbials e.g. first, next, then etc.

Phonics

We will be using Read Write Inc to support our two daily phonics lessons.

Maths

This year we are using a new maths scheme called 'Maths No Problem'. This half term we will be looking at numbers to 100, place value, number bonds and number patterns.

To support your child at home, please help them to practise counting in steps of 1, 2, 5 and 10 forwards and backwards.

Geography

The theme for our geography lessons this half term is the United Kingdom. We will be exploring many key areas including the countries that make up the UK, the capital cities and flags for each country.

Please have a look at the Knowledge Builder below for all the facts that the children need to learn about the United Kingdom.

PE

PE will take place outside on the following days for each class:

2B - Wednesday and Friday

2C - Wednesday and Friday

2S - Thursday and Friday

Please make sure that your child has a suitable PE kit in school on those days.

Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE)

This is a very challenging time for everybody and we are aware that some young people may find this situation very worrying and at times quite overwhelming. This video discusses the importance of mental health and how to manage feelings of anxiety:

The following website provides fantastic advice and support for both children and adults during these difficult times:
