Welcome to Year 3's Class Page
Our Geography focus this half term is, 'Why do people live around rivers?'
During this half term we will be studying the journey of a river. Our geography focus will enable pupils to identify and recognise the similarities and differences between the River Thames in England and the River Severn in Wales.
In our Destination Reader sessions we will be reading ‘Hodgeheg’ written by Dick King – Smith. This will be used as a basis to develop a range of reading skills, including prediction and inference. In writing sessions, we will be using the story ‘Hodgeheg’ to understand how to effectively combine dialogue and description. Additionally, pupils will then write an instructional text on ‘How to Cross a Road’ centred on the story read throughout the Destination Reader sessions.
Our focus within Maths will be focusing on measuring, comparing, adding and subtracting lengths using metres, centimetres and millimetres. With this knowledge, pupils will then calculate the perimeter or simple 2D shapes, including circles, squares and rectangles. Additionally, pupils will then recognise, find and write fractions of a discrete set of objects: unit fractions and non-unit fractions with small denominators.
PE lessons will take place on Mondays for 3G and Tuesdays for 3J and 3SO. However, these are subject to change so please ensure PE kits are in school every day. We will be completing the Daily Mile 4 times a week.
We are looking forward to a fantastic term in Year 3!
