A Love of Learning and the Perseverance to Succeed

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3's Class Page

Our Connector this Half Term is: Granny's Basket

During this half term we will be learning the importance of maintaining a healthy body, focusing on the skeleton, muscle and food intake.

In Literacy, we will be focusing on Fairy Tales that have an emphasis on food, such as Little Red Riding Hood and Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. The children will be writing recounts of these stories written from a variety of viewpoints.

Our focus within Maths will be on building on our previous knowledge of tens and ones and extending this to hundreds, tens and ones.  Focusing on addition and subtraction, we will be using hundreds, tens and ones charts to add and subtract and begin to use column addition and subtraction with carrying.  There will be opportunities each week to apply this knowledge to a range of problem solving and reasoning activities.  By the end of this academic year, it is essential that the children are able to rapidly recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.  Please ensure that you are practicing these with your child, using Times Table Rockstars to support this.

Within Science lessons, we will be identifying that animals, including humans, need the correct type and amount of nutrition in order to maintain a healthy body. As well as identifying the importance of the body’s skeleton and muscles, which support, protect and enable movement. We will be welcoming an Osteopath on Wednesday 6th November, who will the muscle and tissues and bones in the body.

In Computing, we will be looking at keeping safe online using National Online Safety (NOS).

PE lessons will take place on Mondays for 3G, Tuesdays for 3J and Wednesdays for 3SO.  However, these are subject to change so please ensure PE kits are in school every day.  We will be completing the Daily Mile 4 times a week.

We are looking forward to a fantastic term in Year 3!
