We will be exploring the topic of pirates using poems, stories and historical sources of information. Children will be learning a poem to perform, creating tricky tongue twisters and using similes to write their own character descriptions and poetry.
This topic has a Geography focus and we will learn about the significance of latitude, longitude, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, Arctice and Antarctic Circle, the Prime Meridien and time zones. Please use the Knowledge Organiser which has been sent home to learn the definitions of these words. We will also make a treasure map which will involve learning about co-ordinates and the points of the compass. Within Design and Technology, we will be sewing money pouches.
Our focus within Maths will be on building on our previous knowledge of tens and ones and extending this to hundreds, tens and ones. Focusing on addition and subtraction, we will be using hundreds, tens and ones charts to add and subtract and begin to use column addition and subtraction. There will be opportunities each week to apply this knowledge to a range of problem solving and reasoning activities. By the end of year 3 we need to all be able to rapidly recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Please start to learn these at home, using Times Table Rockstars to support this.
Within Science lessons, we will be focusing on floating and sinking. This will involve a range of practical investigations and will explore forces within the water, including upthrust.
In Computing, we will be looking at keeping safe online using National Online Safety (NOS).
PE lessons will take place on Mondays for 3G, Tuesdays for 3J and Wednesdays for 3SO. However, these are subject to change so please ensure PE kits are in school every day. We will be completing the Daily Mile 4 times a week.
We are looking forward to a fantastic term in Year 3!
