Religion and World Views at Lordship Lane
Aims
In Religion and World Views (RWV), formerly known as RE, we aim to give children a good understanding of the beliefs and practices of major world religions. We also aim to develop their enquiry skills: children begin to understand what it means to be a theologian, comparing the beliefs of a wide range of religions. Furthermore, our RWV curriculum ensures that children have time and space to consider some of life's big questions, as well as understanding what religious and humanist answers may be offered by others. Of course, the understanding of others offered by our RWV curriculum helps to ensure children continue to grow into tolerant and accepting citizens.
Curriculum
Our RWV curriculum is based on exploRE, the agreed RE syllabus in Essex, but we have made some changes so that it works well for our school and our community. Generally speaking, children learn thematically in key stage 1 with topics such as 'special people' and 'special words' before moving on to study specific religious and non-religious beliefs in key stage 2.
RWV Teaching
In Early Years, children learn about RWV in free flow activities and whole class discussions. They also learn through seasonal experiences based on Diwali, Christmas, Eid and Chinese New Year.
In Key Stages 1 and 2, children, have one RWV lessons a week throughout the year. Weekly quizzing helps children to remember what they have learnt over time.
